It is important to have modern mathematical tools at your disposal, and we are now fortunate enough to have some quality technology that is also free and open-source.

  1. The Sage Mathematical Software Project is a full computational engine for mathematics built by assembling a large number of other open-source projects into a coherent whole and integrating the popular scripting language Python for power and flexibility. I am trying to get my students to learn to use this. at this point you should go check out the new cloud server. It is incredibly good.
  2. GeoGebra is a dynamic geometry and algebra package. I especially want my pre-service teaching students to be aware of this.

Both projects can be run through a web browser! (Don’t use Internet Explorer. Seriously.)
